Every now and again Blackpool gets a big name performing at the Opera House or The Tower or even Elton John on the promenade. This year Rod Stewart is set to play the first ever live music show at Bloomfield Road, Blackpool FC’s 20’000 capacity stadium. But every now and again there are other gems who appear on the scene. Lesser knowns but no lesser quality and this Friday Canadian band, Sumo Cyco start their UK tour at the revered Rock Club , THE TACHE on corporation street, Blackpool.
I first saw these guys in Ireland at the Indie Week Ireland festival in April this year which was held in the city of Limerick. Both band and city blew me away and the level of quality throughout the whole festival was simply amazing. Some of Ireland’s finest independent acts pitched their talents for the music industry amongst some acts
from the Canada, the US and even the UK. Sumo Cyco had been invited to showcase at the show as part of their prize for winning INDIE WEEK Toronto, 2013 and with them across the Atlantic came this measure of expectation that the bar has been raised for independent acts and that we in the UK need to rise to that challenge.
Nu metal /punk may not be to everyone’s taste but a half hour set from these guys can convert the hardest of hearts purely through the performance alone. You can see from the moment they walk on the stage they are the real deal, the professionalism, the dedication, the sound all belong on any big stage and we are lucky to have them play in our own town. Bands like this usually by-pass Blackpool and advised to go elsewhere, they play Manchester and that’s the north west done for most touring bands but this Friday, Aurovine proudly presents one of the finest acts associated with us and I seriously advise you to check these guys out because you will not be disappointed regardless of music taste.
